Blasting

Blasting, in preparation for painting, is performed in an environmentally controlled booth of approximately 580 cubic metres (20 000 cubic feet) in volume. Steel shot is used which provides a surface finish that improves paint adhesion. A cyclone system also eliminates blasting dust.
The booth has a steel shot recycling system which eliminates the use of copper slag. This system enables the use of 30 tons of recyclable steel shot per year instead of 800 tons of copper slag per year. The exterior of the booth is serviced by two overhead gantry cranes, each of 11 ton capacity. The floor rail system has multi load carrying dolleys, each with a load capacity of 26 ton. The booths are serviced by internal overhead rails and trolleys capable of carrying 5 ton between supports.
